Welcome to The Grove Precinct, Western Australia’s first public building incorporating innovative environmentally sustainable design (ESD) features and technologies.

The Grove Library Project is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the Green Precincts Program,  and is cited as a high-profile demonstration project that will share innovative ideas with the wider community. Visit the Australian Government’s Green Precincts website for more details and the full report on The Grove Library Project.

This is a place of inspiration.  It is a showcase of eco-architecture and home to our magnificent library, inviting community education centre, the Shire of Peppermint Grove offices – and very soon, a café and more services to support the ratepayers and vibrant communities of Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove and Mosman Park as well as the wider community. This is truly, a place to grow.

The eco landscaping and the Grove’s events, workshops and activities which will be offered throughout the year have been developed to inspire the community in all sorts of ways while also helping it prepare for a future with less water and higher energy costs.

Designed by architects, Cox Howlett + Bailey Woodland, the building includes climate-sensitive design; energy and water-efficient fixtures and fittings; rainwater harvesting; onsite treatment and reuse of wastewater; renewable energy (solar panels and wind turbine), and storm water treatment.  The extent of the innovations has been driven by the community’s desire to look to the future – and has resulted in the project becoming a sustainability pioneer.

On this website you will be able to download information sheets on the key ESD features and technologies of the building and when visiting you can learn more about the building through creative interpretive signage and discrete viewing windows which show hidden innovative features such as the thermal maze and rainwater first flush chambers.

Please email us at library@thegrovelibrary.com or phone 9286 8686 to have your name put on a list for a future tour.

Please come back, to watch this site grow.
